Airborne Radar Systems Engineer

Protec Technical is recruiting an Airborne Radar Systems Engineer for a contract opportunity with a defence electronics prime near Edinburgh. Working on a high-value programme to develop next-generation airborne surveillance and targeting radar systems, this role offers the chance to contribute to a strategically important UK aviation defence capability.

About the role

You will join an airborne radar systems engineering team supporting the development, integration, and qualification of radar mission systems for fixed-wing and rotary military aircraft. The role requires a strong background in radar system architecture, signal processing, and airborne system qualification to UK military airworthiness standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to airborne radar system design and requirements engineering activities
• Support system integration, ground testing, and airborne trial activities for military radar systems
• Produce and review technical documentation including specifications, test plans, and analysis reports
• Engage with MOD customer and sub-contractor technical teams on airborne radar requirements
• Support airworthiness substantiation and safety case activities for aircraft-mounted radar installations

Requirements

• Degree in Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in airborne radar or airborne sensor systems engineering
• Sound understanding of radar fundamentals, AESA/PESA concepts, and signal processing in an airborne context
• Experience with UK Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) release to service processes advantageous
• Active UK SC clearance; DV clearance is an advantage
• UK national; right to live and work in the UK

Rate

£580–£700 per day. 12-month initial contract; strong probability of extension on a long-running programme.
