Airworthiness Safety Engineer (Defence Aviation) – Contract – Farnborough

Protec Technical is recruiting an Airworthiness Safety Engineer for a contract position with a leading UK aerospace and defence prime at Farnborough. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile military aircraft programme, contributing to airworthiness and safety engineering activities at the intersection of civil and military regulatory frameworks.

About the role

You will lead and support safety engineering activities across a major UK military aircraft programme, including hazard identification, FMECA, fault tree analysis, and the development and maintenance of the airworthiness safety case. The role requires in-depth knowledge of both MOD/MAA safety management frameworks and aviation airworthiness requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support hazard identification and risk assessment activities (HAZID, HAZOP, FMECA) for airborne systems
• Develop and maintain the programme airworthiness safety case in accordance with MOD DEF STAN 00-056 or MAA requirements
• Conduct Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Event Tree Analysis (ETA) for aircraft systems
• Prepare safety argument documentation and engage with the MOD Airworthiness Review Panel
• Interface with design and certification teams to ensure safety risk reduction measures are implemented in the aircraft design

Requirements

• Degree in Aerospace, Systems, or Electronic Engineering
• Minimum 5 years’ safety engineering experience on UK MOD aviation or defence aerospace programmes
• Strong working knowledge of DEF STAN 00-056, JSP 520, and MAA Regulatory Publications for airborne systems
• Proficiency with safety analysis tools (e.g. Isograph, Relex, or similar)
• Active UK SC clearance; DV desirable for this programme
• UK national; right to live and work in the UK

Rate

£560–£680 per day. Initial 12-month contract with strong extension prospects on a long-running programme.
