Military UAV Systems Engineer – Permanent – Cambridge

Protec Technical is recruiting a Military UAV Systems Engineer for a permanent position at an innovative defence and aerospace technology business near Cambridge. This is a highly sought-after opportunity to work at the forefront of unmanned air vehicle development, contributing to next-generation UK military UAS capability.

About the role

You will work within a multi-disciplinary UAS engineering team, contributing to the systems engineering, integration, and flight test of unmanned air vehicle platforms for UK and allied defence customers. The role spans air vehicle, payload, and ground control station systems, with direct engagement with Military Aviation Authority regulatory processes.

Key responsibilities

• Define and develop military UAS system architectures and requirements across air vehicle, payload, and GCS domains
• Lead integration and verification activities for UAS platform and mission systems
• Support CONOPS development and system-level performance trade studies for military UAS applications
• Engage with Military Aviation Authority (MAA) regulatory processes for UAS airspace integration and release to service
• Contribute to programme bids and proposals with technical input and effort estimates

Requirements

• Degree in Aerospace, Electronic, or Systems Engineering
• Minimum 4 years’ UAS or UAV systems engineering experience in a military or defence context
• Practical knowledge of military UAS platforms, ISR payloads, data links, and GCS architectures
• Familiarity with MAA Regulatory Publications (MARPs) and DEF STAN airworthiness frameworks for UAS
• UK SC clearance or eligibility to obtain
• UK national; right to live and work in the UK

Salary

£58,000–£75,000 per annum, plus pension, healthcare, and share options.
