Flight Test Engineer – Contract – Warton

Protec Technical is recruiting an experienced Flight Test Engineer for a contract opportunity based at a leading aerospace flight test facility in Warton. This role offers the opportunity to be involved in cutting-edge aircraft test programmes in a prestigious and technically demanding environment.

About the role

You will be embedded within a flight test team responsible for planning, executing, and analysing flight test sorties in support of aircraft development and certification programmes. The position requires a confident technical communicator able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-stakes engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and prepare flight test cards, test procedures, and instrumentation requirements
• Monitor and analyse real-time and post-flight data to assess test objectives and aircraft performance
• Support test readiness reviews and flight safety assessments
• Prepare test reports, anomaly reports, and technical briefings for programme teams
• Liaise with design, systems, and airworthiness teams to resolve in-flight findings

Requirements

• Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Systems Engineering
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a flight test environment (civil or military)
• Experience with flight test instrumentation systems and data acquisition tools
• Strong knowledge of aerodynamics, aircraft performance, and flight mechanics
• Eligibility for UK security clearance to at least SC level is essential
• UK-based; right to work in the UK required

Rate

£600–£720 per day. IR35 status to be confirmed; role may be accessible inside or outside IR35.
